Madison Water Treatment Facility
The Madison Water Treatment Plant employs a Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, who also serves as the Operator in Responsible Charge and two A-Surface Certified Operators. The Water Plant was constructed in 1972 and designed to produce 1.5 MGD (million gallons per day) with operations 365 days a year.
The Water Plant's intake and raw water pump station is located on Lindsey Bridge Road above the dam on the Dan River.
The Town has four Water Storage Tanks that hold 1.3 million gallons of water. Each tank has been equipped with Trihalomethane Removal System (TRS) in order to meet or exceed the EPA’s limits on Trihalomethanes (TTHM’s) and Haloacetic Acids (HAA5).
Water Quality
The Water Plant operates its own laboratory that is certified by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Plant personnel perform over 20,000 in-house tests annually to ensure water quality parameters are accomplished in addition to collecting samples to submit to contract laboratories for testing. Water Treatment Plant personnel respond to complaints about water quality and oversee the collection and analysis of distribution system samples to monitor the overall water quality system.
